VFFA March Meeting – Guest Speaker Anthony McGrath (VRFish)
Thursday 19 March, 6:30pm
Kelvin Club, Melbourne
Join us for the March meeting of the Victorian Fly Fishers’ Association, where we welcome Anthony McGrath, recently appointed Executive Officer of VRFish, the peak body representing Victoria’s recreational fishers.
Anthony will provide an update on the work VRFish has been doing on behalf of recreational anglers across the state, and outline the organisation’s priorities and advocacy efforts as we approach the Victorian State Government election later this year. This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand how key issues affecting recreational fishing are being addressed and what may lie ahead for Victorian fishers.
Before joining VRFish, Anthony spent ten years with the Victorian Fisheries Authority, where he delivered a range of outcomes for anglers, including access and infrastructure projects at locations such as Kyneton Lakes, Tullaroop and Barkers Creek. He has also worked in the complex and highly regulated commercial abalone fishery, giving him a broad perspective on fisheries management across Victoria.
Importantly, Anthony is also a passionate fly fisher. He first picked up a fly rod at the age of twelve and has spent many years fishing the rivers of North-East Victoria, the Snowy Mountains, Tasmania and New Zealand, along with more far-flung destinations such as the Amazon. These days he’s more often found fishing the lakes around Ballarat.
This promises to be a fascinating and informative evening for anyone interested in the future of recreational fishing in Victoria.
Members and guests are encouraged to bring along questions.
