Fly Tying Fundamentals Part Four: Advanced
This is the one the series has been building towards.
Part Four is for members who have worked through the earlier Fly Tying Fundamentals evenings, or experienced tyers who want to sharpen their technique and pick up methods they won’t find in a beginner class.
Kossy will dig into the advanced side of fly construction: trickier materials, more complex tying sequences, and the techniques that separate a fly that catches fish from one that just looks the part. Expect to cover things like advanced material handling, spinning and stacking deer hair, working with delicate quills and biots, building durable multi-stage bodies, and getting proportions right on patterns where there’s nowhere to hide.
By this stage it’s less about following a recipe and more about understanding why a fly is built the way it is. The goal is that you can sit down at the vice with any pattern, pull it apart in your head, and tie it cleanly and consistently yourself.
If the earlier sessions gave you the foundations, this is where it all comes together.
