April 16th Meeting at 8pm with by ZOOM with
James Laverty from Fly Odyssey Australia

Attend the meeting by Zoom from your home

Our president Chris Gray is organising for James to make his presentation to us using the incredible (and free) Zoom computer video conferencing application that will enable us to see and hear James and see his spectacular photos and videos – all on our laptops or home computers or iPads whilst sitting at home.

Not quite an in-person presentation, but think of the convenience – no travel, no parking costs, and no long trips home afterwards, and our country members will also be able to enjoy James’s presentation without any travel issues.

New territory thrust upon us by this appalling virus, but perhaps some advantages here too.

James is the Travel Director of Fly Odyssey Australia and Vice-President of the Ballarat Fly Fishers Club.

Fly Odyssey Australia, which commenced in 2015, is a full-service Travel Agency specialising in sending clients around the world.

Based in Ballarat, James has been flyfishing all through Australia and in many places around the world since he first picked up a fly rod and learned to cast in Scotland more than 25 years ago. His love of the marine environment led him to complete an Honours Degree in Aquatic Science.

He then worked on water quality projects around Australia, as well as working in the tourism industry for several years in management and dive master roles along the Great Barrier Reef

As well as sending many individuals, couples and small groups on tailored flyfishing holidays throughout the year, Fly Odyssey Australia also leads a wide range of group hosted trips. They have also developed the Island Initiative charity which has assisted empowering small island communities in the Pacific, such as Anaa Atoll in French Polynesia, to develop sustainable economic activities through fisheries conservation and research.

As you would be aware, James is not now able to speak to us in person at our scheduled lunch April 16, due to the restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

However, our president is organising for James to make his presentation to us using the incredible (and free) Zoom computer video conferencing application that will enable us to see and hear James and see his spectacular photos and videos – all on our laptops or home computers or iPads whilst sitting at home. Not quite an in-person presentation, but think of the convenience – no travel, no parking costs, and no long trips home afterwards, and our country members will also be able to enjoy James’s presentation without any travel issues. New territory thrust upon us by this appalling virus, but perhaps some advantages here too.

Members will be given detailed instruction soon on how to install this small application and then log onto our April meeting.
